Update: Affie is now available for adoption. He has been with a foster home for 8 months. He needs a quiet home without children and someone that doesn't have a busy household. He also needs someone that already has a dog that is friendly. We will be very picky who Affie goes with. He came to usferal and has progressed to sleeping in the bed with his foster mom, but he will not let anyone hold him. He doesn't hide, he likes being around people, but he just doesn't want anyone to hold him. A very patient person will have to adopt this little one. He is pretty good at using the puppy pads. His adoption fee is $200. . . Affie was rescued from a dog auction in SW Missouri in October of 2008. He is still with us. At the time of his rescue, he was only 6 months old. He did not sell as a pup because of the inbreeding in his pedigree. He did not sell at auction because he only had one testicle. This is where his name comes from- Afortunado because he is lucky that he only had one or else we wouldn't have been able to rescue him. But we call him Affie for short. When Affie came to us he was completely feral. He would nip and urinate whenever someone picked him up. He does not do that anymore, but still does not let anyone get close to him and will run. He does get on the bed and will let you pet him when you are laying down. He will sleep right by you and give kisses, but as soon as you get up, he is off. Affie has also bonded with our mascot, Chava. At first, he wouldn't leave her side and cried when she left but he is much better about letting her go now. Affie is trained to go on puddle pads and goes outside every once in awhile when the weather is nice on a leash. Affie will not be adoptable for quite sometime and may even have to be one of our sanctuary dogs. A sanctuary dog is one that never gets "turned around" and is too scarred by its experience that it will never be a normal dog or close to it. They do best in a foster home that has rehab experience and they have other dogs that can be their companion. It is a sad thing, but this is why puppy mills need to be stopped.
